New Ulm Police
• Responded to a call of a man trashing a house on the 800 block, S. Payne St. at 10:41 a.m. Jan. 12. The homeowner, a 74-year-old New Ulm man told police he was gone for a while, returned home and noticed his 37-year-old son, who suffers from mental illness, trashed the house. A report was sent to Brown County Human Services.
Responded to a call at 9:45 p.m. Jan. 12 on Berens Blvd. where the same 37-year-old New Ulm man claimed his father, the same 74-year-old New Ulm man, hit him with his cane, but he was not injured. The son was transported to New Ulm Medical Center and signed in on a mental health hold. A report was sent to Brown County Human Services.
• Found a man who appeared to be heavily intoxicated near Minnesota St. and 3rd St. North at 12:44 a.m. Jan. 13. Police recognized the man as a 45-year-old New Ulm man on probation who was not to consume alcohol. The man fled on foot while talking to police. He was seen getting into a vehicle driven by his girlfriend, a 42-year-old New Ulm woman, a short time later. The man was cited for fleeing on foot and transported to the Brown County Evaluation Center. Reports were sent to Brown County Probation and the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
• Responded to a physical domestic call at 3:55 p.m. Jan. 13 on the 200 block, Garden St. N. A 42-year-old New Ulm woman said her 39-year-old boyfriend smashed her cell phone and slapped her face. The man was arrested and taken to the Brown County Jail. The woman did not seek medical attention. A report was sent to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for consideration of a domestic assault charge.
• Responded to a report of a possible intoxicated man in a vehicle in the Kwik Trip parking lot at 7:48 p.m. Jan. 13 at 1623 N. Broadway. Police arrested a man sitting in a vehicle with an open alcohol container. A report was sent to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for consideration of third-degree DWI and open container charges.
• Took a parking complaint at 9:27 a.m. at 812 1st St. N. A Mercury Mystique that was said to be at its current location for several weeks, was towed to the city impound lot.
• Responded to Express Lane, 627 N. Minnesota St. for a $30.18 gas drive-off. The suspect vehicle was said to be a Maroon GMC SUV. A report was done for documentation.
• Stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at 11:05 p.m. Jan. 14 at Center and Garden St. The driver, a 36-year-old Sleepy Eye man, showed impairment signs, was arrested and transported to jail for a test. Reports were sent to Brown County Probation and the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office for consideration of third-degree DWI and no Minnesota driver’s license.
• A 51-year-old New Ulm man said at 12:49 pm.. Jan. 15 that he had two fraudulent debit card charges totaling $800 at a New York ski resort. The man said he contacted Windham Mountain Resort who is contacting Windham Police because the resort appeared to have an idea on suspects from video surveillance. A report was done for documentation.
• Responded to an intensive residential treatment facility Jan. 15 for a disturbance. Police found a 22-year-old Mahtomedi man who was upset, hit an officer with a closed fist, was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. The officer did not seek medical attention. Reports were sent to Brown County Probation and the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.
• Responded to a two-vehicle crash at 3:23 p.m. Jan. 15 in blowing snow at Highway 14 and Highland Ave. N. A 2017 Ford Explorer, Travis Tyler Mundt, 24, New Ulm, was at a stop sign on N. Highland, facing south, proceeded south across Highway 14 and collided with a 2017 Dodge Ram driven by Shaun Michael Wensauer, 26, Courtland. Mundt had a minor cut above the left facial cheek. Wensauer had a minor right leg injury. Both drivers wore seat belts. Both vehicles appeared to be demolished.
Sleepy Eye Police
• Responded to a call about a frozen apartment pipe at 101 1/2 Main St. E. at 8:06 a.m. Tuesday. Police found what appeared to be a dog starved to death in an apartment inhabited by a Sleepy Eye couple. The dog corpse was sent to the University of Minnesota for an autopsy to determine if it starved to death. Police continue to investigate the incident that included damage from a burst water pipe, to determine if charges will be filed.
Minnesota State Patrol
• Responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 22 at Augusta Drive, Mankato Township, Blue Earth County at 3:50 p.m. Jan. 15. A 2016 Toyota RAV4 driven westbound on Augusta Dr. by Paul Masaazi Nsubuga, 20, Mankato, collided with a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado driven south on Highway 22 by Diego Jacobo Gomez, 31, Fairfax. Nsubuga, Gomez and Silverado passengers Naila Celeste Jacobo, 9, Fairfax, and Irene Rebulloza, 47, Fairfax, all had non-life threatening injures and were transported to a Mankato hospital. It was not known if Naila Celeste Jacobo wore a seat belt. Rebulloza did not wear a seat belt. Mankato Police and Fire Departments, the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office and Mayo Ambulance assisted.
