New Ulm Police

• Responded to an unknown one-vehicle crash at 2:15 a.m. Nov. 2 at 20th Street South and Broadway. An 2015 Chevrolet Equinox was southbound on Broadway when it collided with a traffic control light on the south side of the intersection. Damage was severe to the front end and passenger side of the vehicle.

• Responded to a two-vehicle crash without reported injuries on U.S. Highway 14 and Highland Avenue at 5:17 p.m. A 2020 Ford Escape driven by Lynette Louis, 75, New Ulm, was attempting to turn west onto Highway 14 when it went it collided with a 2016 Ram 1500 driven by Jason John Melby, New Ulm. Both drivers wore seat belts. Moderate damage was reported to the front of the Ford, causing it to be towed. Damage was moderate from the front door to the bumper of the Ram.

• Responded to a two-vehicle crash Garden Street and 5th Street North at 4:07 p.m. Dec. 2. A 2005 Buick Park Avenue driven by Donald Vick, 84, Redwood Falls, was stopped at a stop sign at 5th North and Garden, facing south when it was rear-ended by a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by Josiah Smith, 19, New Ulm. Damage was moderate to the front of the Nissan and minor to the rear of the Buick. Both drivers wore seat belts.

• Responded to a two-vehicle crash without reported injuries at Highway 14 and Highland Avenue at 7:05 p.m. Dec. 4. A 2012 Dodge Avenger driven by Derek Russell Poppenhagen, 55, New Ulm, was eastbound on Highway 14 when a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Avery Marie Holmgren, 16, New Ulm, was stopped at a stop sign on Highland Ave. North, then began turning left, eastbound onto Highway 14, failed to yield and collided with the Dodge. Damage was moderate and disabling to both vehicles. Both drivers wore seat belts.

• Talked to a 45-year-old New Ulm woman Dec. 1 who said her former boyfriend, a 40-year-old New Ulm man, was mentally abusing her. It was learned that contact between them was a probation violation against the man. A report was sent to Brown County Probation.

• Received a report of a loud explosion at New Ulm Steel & Recycling, 218 19th St. South at 3:36 p.m. Dec. 1. A manager told police a machine backfired. A report was sent to city hall.

• Arrested a 54-year-old New Ulm man on a Brown County warrant for failure to appear in court on a theft charge, at 110 German St. S. at 5:31 p.m. Dec. 1. A report was done for documentation.
