NEW ULM — A local family business that specializes in handmade furniture from wood and metal, opened a new showroom with an open house Saturday.

Cala Contemporary Woodwork owners Harold and Jayme Enamorado celebrated the event with the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce Willkommen Committee.

They create pieces based on their designs and take custom orders from commercial and residential customers.

Located at 1227 N. Broadway, Suite B, the business mills salvaged trees from local sources and kiln dries the boards in it’s shop to ensure quality. Digital, 3D models are prepared for clients to show them how their product will look when complete.

“We rescue trees at the City of New Ulm waste disposal site,” Harold said.

Born and raised in Honduras, Harold worked at his father’s furniture business before earning an architecture degree, marrying Jayme and moving to Minnesota, her home state.

Mark Hoffmann of New Ulm visited the showroom Saturday and talked to Harold.

“It’s nice to see finished art in a local wood showroom,” Hoffmann said.

Harold’s products include cube-shaped wood creations, barn beam coffee tables, reclaimed wood console tables, floating slab console tables, mid-century modern night stands, black walnut dining tables with molten aluminum inlays, honey Lucust with black epoxy dining tables, modern desks, red cedar console tables, and reclaimed barn wood benches.

Business hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
