Dr. Michael Nelson hired full time at MCHC

MADELIA — The Madelia Community Hospital & Clinic (MCHC) is happy to announce the hiring of Dr. Michael Nelson as the Medical Director of the Emergency Department. In addition to other duties, he will be educating MCHC staff members on the care of trauma patients and exploring performance improvements in trauma care.

Dr. Nelson had been working in the MCHC Emergency Room as a locum tenens physician for over four years. MCHC now employs him directly and he will continue to see patients in the Emergency Room and after hours Urgent Care. Dr. Nelson will also participate in various Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) surveys in his new role at MCHC.

“I really like Madelia, it’s the best place that I have ever worked,” said Dr. Nelson. “The staff is excellent and the morale and work environment is the best.”

Dr. Nelson grew up in Denver, Colorado and attended Colorado State University, Fort Collins and Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He worked briefly in private practice, and then spent 27 years serving as a prison doctor in penitentiaries in Oregon, California, Washington D.C. and Rochester.
