Historic Kiesling House features Spinning Demonstration Saturday

JoAnn Huss teaches the art of spinning to a young enthusiast.

NEW ULM — The Historic Kiesling House, 220 N. Minnesota St., will feature a wool spinning demonstration by expert spinner, JoAnn Huss on Saturday, July 8, from 1 to 4 p.m..

Huss enjoys interacting with audiences and teaching her craft. Items related to spinning will be on display. Visitors will have an opportunity to sit at the spinning wheel and try spinning the wool.

This presentation complements the regular programming which includes a guided tour, a video presentation and exhibits. Explore the past at Historic Kiesling House constructed in 1861; it survived the US – Dakota War of 1862 and is the only wood-framed house from that era remaining in Brown County. Learn about early pioneer settlement, customs and traditions of area immigrants and events, like the US-Dakota War of 1862, that shaped New Ulm. Examine the development of community and influence of social and political issues on residents that lived in this area of Minnesota.

Admission: $3 per person – 5 and under are free.
