Spring is here for real
German Park fountain flows in April
German Park angel fountain is up and running for the 2026 season as of Friday afternoon.
NEW ULM – For the first time in a few years, the German Park Angel fountain is flowing in April.
New Ulm park staff was able to start filling the fountain Friday morning. By 2 p.m. the fountain was fully operational for the 2026 season.
“The fountain running is our annual sign that spring has arrived,” Park and Rec maintenance crew leader Brian Batt said. The day the city is able to turn the fountain on is typically determined by the weather. If the weather is too cold, the fountain might need to late May.
“We had decent enough weather to get it going early,” Batt said. “Our goal is to get the fountain running before prom.”
Maintenance crew as able to reach this goal with a day to spare as New Ulm High School and Minnesota Valley Lutheran hold their proms Saturday. German Park is one of the most popular locations in New Ulm to take pre-prom photos.
The angel fountain will continue to run through the spring and summer. The city will wait until after Oktoberfest to shut the water off for the season.
