BCSO reports scam call alert

Caller with southern accent leaves voicemail messages

BROWN COUNTY — The Brown County Sheriff’s Office reported a telephone scam alert of a caller impersonating an officer, Saturday, Oct. 21.

The sheriff’s office received five reports of a caller with a southern accent attempting to contact individuals for banking information, social security numbers and personal identification, according to a news release.

Individuals receiving scam calls said a message was left to call Brown County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeremy Reed or the Brown County Sheriff’s Office back at a number not associated with Chief Deputy Reed or the sheriff’s office,” according to the news release.

“Nobody we know of responded back. Nobody said money was asked for. We tried to call the phone number Saturday and it was no longer in service. Scammers are often in a different country,” said Brown County Sheriff Jason Seidl.

Law enforcement will never ask for banking information, social security numbers or personal identification over the phone or by email. Please keep this information private, read the news release.
