Brown County Sheriff’s Office

• A 17-year-old Sanborn female and a 44-year-old Springfield man injured in a right-angle (t-bone) crash at the intersection of Brown county Roads 21 and 2 in Stately Township Friday were transported to Twin Cities medical facilities.

Ella Grace Geis of Sanborn was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion that was hit near the driver’s door by the front end of a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Jason Lee Gruendeman of Springfield at 6:50 p.m. Friday, according to a Brown County Sheriff’s Office news release. The crash sent both vehicles off the road, breaking a Brown County REA power pole about 4 miles southwest of Springfield.

Air Care 3 and Mayo 2 advanced life support helicopters landed at the scene. Gruendemann was transported to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale. Geis was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Both drivers were listed in stable condition and receiving care for injuries, the extent of which were unknown.

Assisting at the scene were the Brown County REA which made pole repairs to restore power, Springfield Ambulance, Fire and Police, Sleepy Eye Ambulance and the Minnesota State Patrol. The crash is under investigation, according to Brown County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeremy Reed.

• A 67-year-old Apache Junction, Az. man was injured in one-vehicle crash near the intersection of Brown County Road 20 and 260th Avenue, about nine miles south of Sleepy Eye Friday, June 30.

Nick Lee Meyer was driving a Chevrolet Malibu westbound on CR 20 when he left the road, traveled about 50 yards in the eastbound ditch, crossing 260th Avenue and entered a drainage ditch on the west side of 260th Avenue at 8:38 p.m. He was transported by Sleepy Eye Ambulance to Sleepy Eye Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was damaged severely from being partially submerged in water, according to a Brown County Sheriff’s Office news release.

New Ulm Police

• Responded to the 900 block of Center Street for a domestic assault report at 12:44 a.m. July 1. A 36-year-old New Ulm woman said her ex-boyfriend, a 37-year-old New Ulm man, punched her in the face. The man told police a struggle occurred over a backpack and the woman hit him in the torso several times. He denied hitting her in the face. The man agreed to leave the residence for the night. A report was sent to CADA (Committee Against Domestic Abuse) and Brown County Human Services due to children being present.

• Responded to the 100 block of Franklin St. S. for a domestic assault report at 5:56 p.m. July 1. The caller, a 22-year-old New Ulm woman said her boyfriend, a 20-year-old New Ulm man, hit her in the head. Police noticed blood on the woman’s hands and bump on her head, arrested the man and took him to the Brown County Jail. A report for gross misdemeanor domestic assault was sent to the Brown County Attorney’s Office, human services offices and CADA.

• Stopped a 40-year-old New Ulm man for failure to stop at a stop sign on the 100 block, State St. N. at 1:02 a.m. July 2. Two juveniles, ages 12 and 14 were in the vehicle. the driver was arrested for 2nd-degree DWI and taken to the Brown County Jail. Reports were went to Brown County Probation, Human Services and the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.

• Stopped and cited a 22-year-old New Ulm man for failure to stop at a stop sign, open container and expired registration at 19th St. N. and Minnesota St. at 1:36 a.m. July 2.

• Responded to a report at 7:32 p.m. July 3 of a 17-year-old Sleepy Eye male on hold who fled the New Ulm Medical Center Emergency Department. The family located the male on Oak Street and transported him back to the emergency department. Officers assisted the uncooperative male from exiting the vehicle and going back to the emergency department.

• Responded to NOVA House, 1300 block German St. S. for a missing 43-year-old resident at 10:23 p.m. July 3. The man is on a civil commitment through Olmstead County. He was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as a missing person. A report was sent to Olmstead County Human Services. No further information was available.

• Responded to a suspicious activity report of a man asking for rides and harassing customers at Walmart at 10:29 p.m. July 3. Police met a 37-year-old South St. Paul man who appeared to be intoxicated. A Dakota County Probation Arrest and Detain order was issued. It was learned the man recently finished a stay at the Brown County Evaluation Center. He was transported to the Brown County Jail. A report was sent to Dakota County Corrections.
