For 18 years, NUMC has recognized legendary figures of the medical center’s past. Recipients are those who inspire others to achieve great things and who are admired for their values, skills, talents and overall contribution to the mission of NUMC.

Austvold learned she was receiving the award during a surprise announcement Fridday. Having retired a few years ago, Austvold was invited back to NUMC by a friend. While having a cup of coffee in a hospital lounge, several staff, family and friends gathered to share the news.

NUMC Director Toby Freier presented Austvold and announced her as the Legend Award winner for 2022.

He said Austvold was nominated for the award by several individuals but touched thousands of lives including patients, families and coworkers over her 38 years at NUMC.
