SIBLEY COUNTY — An 18-year-old Belle Plaine man died in a single-vehicle crash Sept. 15 on Scenic Byway Road, about 7 miles southwest of Belle Plaine.

According to the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office, Walker Yahnke was driving a 2000 Ford F-350 southbound on Scenic Byway Road, when the vehicle ran off the road, entered the west ditch, hit a tree and started on fire.

Yahnke was found dead in the vehicle and later identified by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Other assisting agencies were Belle Plaine and Henderson fire departments, Ridgeview Ambulance, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota State Fire Marshal and Sibley County Public Works.
