The shooting of the officer yet to be identified, was reported at about 8 p.m. on the 2100 block of Bunker Lane in St. Peter following an attempt to stop a speeding vehicle, according to St. Peter Police.

The incident began when Mankato Police attempted to stop a vehicle speeding in Mankato. The driver, an adult male, refused to stop, fleeing northbound on Highway 169 into St. Peter, resulting in a pursuit.

The officer was transported to River’s Edge Hospital & Clinic and later airlifted to a metro hospital for further treatment. The officer was listed in stable condition Friday, police said.

Officers eventually entered the St. Peter residence and located the suspect deceased, before the shelter-in-place advisory was lifted. Police said there is no ongoing public threat.

The suspect has not yet been identified.

St. Peter Police requested assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and thanked assisting agencies.

“We are grateful for the assistance provided by responding law enforcement agencies, fire personnel, emergency medical services, dispatchers and medical professionals,” read the St. Peter Police news release. “The officer’s health and recovery remain our primary concern.
