Sertomans get Santa’s Closet ready

Sertoma members (L to R) Gerg Kjellberg, LaNaye Kral, Steve Schneider, Shannon Hillesheim, Louie Austvold, Laurie Austvold, Lisa Mack and Wayne Plagge organize the 2021 Santa’s Closet at the New Ulm Armory building.
Some of the thousands of toys collected for Santa’s Closet are laid out at the New Ulm armory, ready for parents to come pick out something to make Christmas merry for their kids.

NEW ULM — The Sertoma Club of New Ulm spent Friday morning at the New Ulm Armory, setting up the toys donated for the Santa’s Closet project.

Sertoma has organized the Christmas toy donation for over 30 years. Throughout the year, Sertoma members collect money, toys, books, hats and mittens for the event. The toys received are given by individuals and organizations throughout Brown County. Funds received through monetary donations are used to purchase new toys.

Brown County Family Services provides Sertoma with a list of children in need in the county. Parents are able to come and pick out an item for the child to help give all area kids a merry Christmas.
