Braulick goes with the pros

NEW ULM — Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club flat track racing enthusiasts may have seen some of the fastest live racing ever here last weekend at the race track.
Club members Randy Braulick of New Ulm and Adam Schmidt of North Mankato were part of the Grand National Hooligan Championship series featuring twin, triple, and four-cylinder motorcycles over 649cc that were once street legal.
The class of racing that allows minor chassis modifications and unlimited engine modifications, including Harley Davidson Sportsters and Street, Yamaha FZ07, Triumphs, Ducati Scramblers, and many others.
“It’s fun racing with these guys. They definitely fast, with some ex-pros,” said Braulick after he finished fifth in a heat of eight racers Saturday. Schmidt finished fourth in the heat.
“Five guys ran in the pro circuit. It’s the first time this group has been to New Ulm,” Braulick said. “I like the track diversity of the Hooligan Racing.”
A machinist at New Ulm Precision Tool, Inc., Braulick said he likes everything about motorcycle racing.
“I’m the wrench guy, non-stop,” he said giving turing advice to another racer.
Hooligan Grand National Racing has been gaining interest in the last few years, picking up sponsorships. It has been featured in the Summer X Games.
Earlier this year, the Hooligans raced in Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin. they’re scheduled to race in Pensacola and Milton, Fla. Dec. 9-11.
New Ulm flat track racing results are expected to be released early this week.
