NEW ULM — All former and new members are welcome to join the New Ulm Prairie Piecemakers Quilt Guild, a non-profit organization that makes quilts for the needy.
The group that meets at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 9 at St. Paul’s Church, 201 State St. N. in New Ulm.
“The guild has been going for about 25 years,” said Prairie Piecemakers President Patty Haala of Sleepy Eye, who is one of the group’s original members.
“We just love to sew and make quilts,” said Haala. “We learn from each other. It’s a chance to get together with people with like interests.”
The guild supports Quilts of Valor which presents quilts to veterans and military members touched by war, Tummy Time Quilts for Brown County Human Services, quilts for New Ulm Medical Center chemotherapy patients and compassion quilts for crash and fire victims.
“We have a bi-annual quilt show (April 8, 9, 2022) where quilters may enter eight to 10 projects,” Haala said.
“We get together to sew on Thursdays during the day and hold guild meetings that night,” she added. “We’re always looking for new members and welcome anyone to join us and share the fun and get to know people with similar interests.”
Novice and expert quilt-makers are welcome.
Quilt projects and programs including workshops for the coming year include the Old Alley Quilt Shop in Sherburn Sept. 9, Joy Hoffmann trunk show at the Oct. 14 meeting, binding techniques and demonstrations Nov. 11, a family trunk show, mystery class and trunk show, the Mary Alsop trunk show, scissors care and sharpening, a quilt panel/trunk show and a Dec. 9 potluck Christmas party with a physical therapist.
