Friday’s School board meeting article incorrectly stated Matt Ringhofer voted against the K-8 masking for K-8 students. He voted in favor of this but against a K-12 mandate. Board member Melissa Sunderman voted against K-8 masking but for K-12 masking.
The first vote taking during the board meeting was 4-2 against for no mask mandate with Board members Denny Waloch and Johnathan Schiro voting for no mask requirement.
The second vote recommending Kindergarten through 8th-grade students, but does not require it for 9-12 graders and staff. It resulted in a 3-3 tie with Waloch, Schiro and Sunderman voting against.
The third motion to require masks for all grades, staff and visitors also failed 3-3 with Dewanz, Schiro and Waloch voting against it.
With all three options failing to pass the masking recommendation would stand by default. The first option to have masks only be a recommendation was brought to a vote again. The results were the same as the first vote 4-2.
