Deputy injured in collision with cattle
SLEEPY EYE — A Brown County deputy was injured and his squad vehicle seriously damaged in a collision with some cattle Thursday morning.
At around 2:20 a.m. Thursday, Deputy Justin Bauer was responding to a report of suspicious activity at a farm site near Sleepy Eye. While driving to the scene on 280th Avenue, Bauer hit cattle that were in the middle of the road. He was travelling below the speed limit of 55 mph due to foggy conditions, according to a Brown County press release.
Bauer was transported by the Sleepy Eye Ambulance to New Ulm Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. His 2016 Ford Explorer Interceptor squad received damages in excess of $13,000.
The cattle involved in the accident had to be put down due to their injuries, the report said.
The accident is being investigated by the Minnesota State Patrol.
