Physically distanced trick or treat event Oct. 31
NEW ULM — Healthy Communities Healthy Youth (HCHY) is hosting a physically distanced trick or treat event on Halloween.
The event will be held in the Jefferson Elementary Parking lot from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
Students in HCHY and the SPOTS program will line the Jefferson Parking lot in Halloween costumes with fun props. The students will maintain a six-foot distance from those attending the event. It is designed similar to a walking parade and at the end participating kids get a bag of candy.
HCHY Director Sheldon Rieke said the candy handoff will be done with a basket on the end of a six-foot pole.
“Kids are encouraged to wear costumes because we will all be in costumes,” Rieke said. This event is seen as an alternative to door-to-door trick or treating in the age of COVID.
“The kids deserve to have some kind of Halloween fun,” Rieke said.
