Board OKs new road alignment

BROWN COUNTY — Brown County commissioners unanimously approved a resolution establishing a new State Highway 13 alignment Tuesday.

Design work has begun on the project approved by commissioner Tony Berg, seconded by commissioner Dean Simonsenf.

It establishes a new State Highway 13 alignment from the State Highway 29/North Highland Avenue intersection to State Highway 13 north of New Ulm. The project is in the 2021 construction plan.

The new alignment begins at the State Highway 29/North Highland intersection and goes northeast to Boundary Street, following Boundary Street to Hoffman Road, on a new alignment that crosses the KC Road, connecting to State Highway 13.

The City of New Ulm needs to approve a concurring resolution within city limits.

Brown County Highway Engineer Wayne Stevens said affected landowners will be contacted by mail about how the project affects driveways.

Commissioner Scott Windschitl said he lives in the project area and abstained from voting on the resolution.

Commissioners also:

* Received a COVID 19 update from Brown County Public Health Director Karen Moritz.

“We encourage people to use masks. It’s so important but we see people struggling with it,” Moritz said. “Wash hands, stay if home if you’re sick, maintain distance, and get in and out of stores when shopping. Don’t stand around and shop.”

Moritz said bar and restaurant customers are encouraged to wear masks and employees are required to wear them as of June 1.

She said only single household members should be at individual campsites and that athletes may practice but no games or meets are allowed at this time.

Moritz said salon and barbershop customers should call before going to businesses and only enter when told to by employees.

Commissioner Dave Borchert encouraged people to use online shopping and delivery, saying it has been found to be “very user friendly.”

* The Brown County Board of Review and Equalization meets at 7 p.m., Monday, June 15 in the Law Enforcement Center Training Room. Webex access if available by contacting Brown County Administration at 507-233-6600.
