Man faces felony burglary charges in Brown County heists

NEW ULM — Two felony burglary charges were filed in Brown County District Court Monday against a 44-year-old man suspected in Dec. 17, 2018, heists in Springfield and Sleepy Eye.

Eric T. Hall has no permanent address and is in custody after violating his parole release in Wisconsin, according to court documents. He is accused of stealing $9,324.31 in cash and doing $1,739 in damage breaking into Outlaws Bar & Grill in Springfield.

Hall is accused of taking $300 in cash and doing about $1,800 in damage at Schweiss Meats, Sleepy Eye, on the evening of Dec. 17, 2018. Hall is also a suspect in Sibley and Le Sueur Counties, among others.

According the complaint, a tall, thin male believed to be Hall was wearing a dark-colored hoodie sweatshirt when he was observed on surveillance video breaking into Outlaws Bar & Grill by prying open a door.

Inside the establishment, two safes were pried open and paper money was removed from bank bags, some of which belonged to the American Legion. A juke box was also pried open and all the currency was removed. Authorities photographed a shoe print that was 10 to 11 inches long in the establishment.

Brown County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Jeremy Reed sent out a Crime Alert on the burglaries and received a response from the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Bruce Collins who said the suspect in the Brown County burglaries looked just like a suspect in similar Le Sueur County cases.

Collins said he sent out a crime alert and got a response from the Iowa State Police about similar suspect characteristics for burglaries in Northwest Iowa.

Collins also got a crime alert response from Redwood County Investigator Rick Wakefield who said he was working on Lamberton and Sanborn burglaries that occurred on the same night as the Brown County cases.

Iowa authorities reported to Collins that they located a vehicle that Hall was operating with a large map showing his routes and Xs marking where burglaries occurred including Springfield and Sleepy Eye. In the vehicle, a number of tools were found including a crow bar, pry bar and long bar.

A warrant was filed for Hall to appear in Brown County District Court. A court date has not been set.
