Birthday parade
NEW ULM — Saturday, April 5, was Eva Jean Berle’s third birthday, but with physical distancing in effect, friends and family got creative with the celebration.
A line of 11 vehicles passed by the Berle home on North State Street honking their horns and wishing Eva a happy birthday. Each vehicle in the birthday parade stopped to throw candy or leave gifts.
The parade was organized by Eva’s great aunt Nancy Melzer. Melzer saw the idea of a birthday parade on the news and thought a similar idea could be done for Eva. The family did not want to postpone another birthday. Two years ago, Eva’s first birthday party was canceled due to a snow storm.
The weather was perfect this year. Eva and her family were able to celebrate on the front yard as the vehicles went past.
A kid only has one third birthday, and thanks to the parade, Eva’s will be a memorable one.
