Quiltistry

Quilt enthusiasts gathered in New Ulm Saturday to view quilts on display throughout New Ulm during the bi-annual Quiltistry event. Above, the Way of the Cross displayed a variety of quilts along the fencing. Below, going clockwise from right, Schell’s Brewery displayed quilts in a variety of locations. Guests could wander the gardens and find all the quilt hiding places. The larger quilts were unfurled by the brewery’s main entrance. The Brown County Museum Annex featured vintage quilts with unique designs. This quilt was made from scrap materials in 1910. The individual pieces are made from irregular sized pieces taken from leftover fabric or salvaged from old dresses. This quilted style is called a “crazy quilt.” At bottom, Schonlau Park near the Glockenspiel has no fencing to display quilts, but a temporary clothesline gave the park a colorful new look. The detail on some quilts can only be appreciated up close. This quilt dragonfly quilt featured elaborate stitch work to match its theme.. Hermann Monument was decked out in the finest quilts. The quilts were hung along the perimeter fence and were impressive up close or from afar. (Photos by Clay Schuldt)
