Middle School Presidential awards

New Ulm Middle School recently recognized their Presidential Award winners at a school assembly. Every student in school is tested in 5 areas which are; Mile Run, Sit and Reach, Pull-ups/Flexed Arm Hang, Shuttle Run, and Sit Ups. Each person who gets the Presidential Award has to score in the 85th percentile or above in all 5 areas of the national average, if they miss one they don’t get the award. NUMS saw a 19% increase in Presidential awards earned in 201 with 63 compared to 51 in 2018, as well as an 16.5% improvement over all Presidential Fitness areas tested from the fall testing cycle to the spring testing cycle. Out of 3,030 tests performed during the spring testing cycle at NUMS over 66% of those tests scored above the 50th percentile and of that 66% just over 30% of those tests scored above the 85th percentile.
