NUMC Foundation celebrates in style with its ‘Have a Heart’ gala

NEW ULM — Over 300 people came to the New Ulm Event in their finest outfits for a good cause.

The New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) Foundation hosted its annual “Have a Heart Gala.” The proceeds from the event benefit the Fund for Excellence which impact mental health and addiction services, chronic illness care, Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, Heart of New Ulm Project, Senior Health Services, Neurology Clinical Programs and Medical/Surgical Inpatient Care Unit Renovations.

The NUMC Foundation was established in 2003. The nonprofit organization exists to enhance the health of New Ulm Medical Center patients and the wellness of the communities served by the medical center. The organization provides a method for community member to help sustain NUMC’s mission through donations and memorials.

In 2018, the Foundation raised $25,800 used to support 172 patients at NUMC. This averages $150 per patient in emergent need.

Executive Director of the Foundation, Missy Dreckman said the goal of this evening was to raise $15,000. This amount could be used to help approximately 100 local patients. Over $7,000 was donated within the first 20 minutes of accepting pledges.

The Foundation is expected to raise even more funds through the silent and live auction.
