Laundry Love for low, no-income people

NEW ULM — United Church of Christ is launching a trial run for a Laundry Love project in New Ulm Jan. 22.

Laundry Love is a movement that partners with groups, schools and local laundromats to wash the clothes and bedding of low-income or no-income families and individuals. Clean clothes can instill a sense of hope and help with self-esteem and job interviews.

The trial run will be held at Mega Wash Maytag Laundry, near the local Wal-Mart, at 1702 Westridge Road Suite 54, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Individuals or families may bring their clothing or bedding to the laundromat for free laundry services. A $15 limit is alloted to individuals and a $25 limit for families. Free laundry detergent is provided.

Barb Olson, an organizer of the Laundry Love project in New Ulm, said she hopes the trial run will be successful so that the project can become a monthly occurrence.

“We’d like to encourage any churches or organizations to contribute,” she said.

She said if people want to contribute to the program, they can contact the United Church of Christ in New Ulm.
