SLEEPY EYE — The District 84 Board of Education received the annual Dashir facility management report and fiscal year 2018 audit by Eide Bailly Wednesday.

Sleepy Eye Public School Facilities Maintenance Manager Doug Domeier listed completed projects including installing new elementary gym bleachers, new security cameras, no-wax floors in elementary lavatories and the band room.

In addition, elementary lockers and the cafeteria were repainted, new LED lights were added to the cafeteria and high school gym.

“We’re getting rid of carpeting in the school,” Domeier said. “I’ve got great staff and the school staff is great to work with.”

The board heard a fiscal year 2018 audit by phone. According to the audit, the general fund balance climbed $158,000 and has a balance of more than $3 million. The district budget is $7.2 million. The audit is scheduled to be considered for approval at the Nov. 14 meeting.

The board briefly discussed a Comfrey High School football pairing request and took no action.

The board unanimously approved:

• 11 student open enrollment requests including eight from Springfield and one each from Morgan, Fairfax and New Ulm; and one enrollment request to New Ulm.

• Donations of $2,50 from Lake Crystal Biorefining to the Sleepy Eye FFA program and $1,000 for Elementary Biz town busing from the Sleepy Eye Lions.

• A $7,500 stipend to District 84 Finance Director Amanda Boomgarden to handle payroll clerk duties while the existing payroll clerk is on 12-week childcare leave. Superintendent John Cselovszki said Boomgarden is doing the district a favor by taking the payroll clerk duties that he said would cost more than double that amount if another person was hired to do them.
