Kids’ art moves into gallery at Grand

NEW ULM — At The Grand Center for Arts and Culture, children’s art will be on display during the Kiddo Show opening reception.

Tonight, 5-7 p.m. at The Grand’s 4 Pillars art gallery, art by kids 12-years-old or younger will be on display along with snacks and drinks for viewers’ pleasure.

“It is important to make art available to every age and this allows everybody to participate who wants to participate and it gives them a chance to learn a little bit more about the process and get recognized for their art,” Executive Director James Lundgren said.

The show is not juried so every art piece entered is on display. Over 60 child-artists contributed 112 pieces in whatever medium they chose to use.

The exhibit is organized in ascending order, with art from children under 1-year-old next to 2-year-olds’ art and so on.

There are prizes for pieces in each age category, which compromise two to three years. Prizes will be awarded to artists who were elected in categories including 0-3, 4-5, 6-7 etc.

This is a semi-regular show The Grand hosts. The last time was in 2015, when art was spread out of the gallery and into the hallway.

This year’s Kiddo Show is sponsored by New Ulm Real Estate, Kim Hanson and the Don Wendel Agency of Horace Mann.

“It was important for us to try and not have to have a fee for the kids to participate,” Lundgren said.
