Charter school garners support at lunch, auction

LAFAYETTE — About 250 people showed up to support Lafayette Charter School (LCS) during its annual auction fundraiser.

On Sunday, supporters could eat a meal in the LCS gym and place bids in live and silent auctions.

“This is one of our biggest fundraisers, and the money goes back to the school and getting technology for the kids; often we will use it for experiences for the kids,” Ashley Walters, a first grade teacher, said.

Specifically, the funds go to the Parents Reaching Out to Students (PROS) committee which is made up of parents and teachers of LCS.

“Last year we were able to get iPads in all of our classrooms with the money that was raised,” Walters said.

While the money usually goes to classroom technology or field trips, this year there is no specific goal.

“Each year is a little bit different,” LCS Director Peter Roufs said. “We made a push to buy smartboards in the last few years but now those have all been purchased.”

The live auction offered items including tickets to the Guthrie and Ordway theaters. The most valuable item was a signed jersey from Motorcross champion and Minnesota native Ryan Dungey. It is valued at $250.

Auctioneers from Mages Land Company & Auction Service LLC facilitated the live auction. Teachers from LCS served guests lunch.

“We are just so grateful for all of the donors and all of the people that come out to support us during this auction,” Roufs said. “There are a lot of people involved in making this run well. We are just very appreciative of all the generous people that make this a success.”
