NUACS to induct four into Hall of Fame

NEW ULM – New Ulm Area Catholic Schools will be inducting four members into the 2016 Hall of Fame. A luncheon will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the New Ulm Country Club to honor the newest members.

Each year, candidates who have been nominated by fellow alumni, classmates, co-workers, and friends are evaluated by a committee. Alumni and friends of NUACS can be nominated for four different categories which include: “Distinguished Athletics” for their high athletic achievement while at Cathedral High School, “Distinguished Achievement” for having outstanding professional honor and recognition while making a positive impact on his/her community, “Humanitarian” for demonstrating exceptional personal courage and having faith and actions that serve as an inspiration to others, and “Distinguished Service” for strengthening the programs of NUACS, as well as the greater community, through service.

2016 Inductees

Distinguished Achievement – Dr. Nathan Neubauer (’98)

Dr. Nathan Neubauer grew up in New Ulm and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1998. Neubauer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Services from St. Cloud State University in 2002, before attending Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington to obtain his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 2006.

After graduation, Neubauer worked as an associate chiropractor in Buffalo and Delano before moving to New Ulm in 2008 to purchase Guse Chiropractic from Dr. James Guse.

Neubauer is committed to providing the highest quality chiropractic care to the New Ulm area. He is a member of the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association), and has attended an additional 200 hours of extra training focused on pediatrics and prenatal care. He has received certification recognition from the Academy of Chiropractic Family Practice and the ICPA.

Since moving back to New Ulm, Dr. Neubauer has enjoyed being able to care for family and friends, along with reconnecting with people he hasn’t seen in a while.

Neubauer Family Chiropractic has continued to grow over the past eight years, which has allowed him to do some remodeling to the building and also add a family/pediatric room. Most recently, Neubauer Family Chiropractic added Dr. Steve Eckstein to the team.

Outside the clinic, Neubauer has been a member of the New Ulm Knights of Columbus since 2008 and currently serves as their financial secretary. He has also been involved in the Cathedral Finance Council and now the AFC Parish Council for the past four years.

Neubauer and his wife, Jenni, have two daughters – Autumn (6) and Brielle (4). Autumn is currently in 1st grade at St. Anthony Elementary.

Distinguished Service – Randy “Sam” Clyne (’73)

Sam Clyne has been a constant figure on the baseball fields at CHS for the past 32 years, serving as the assistant baseball coach. Clyne started coaching in 1978 as an assistant and spent the next three decades at Cathedral, helping develop fundamentals and pitching, and serving as the unofficial pitching coach.

Cathedral Baseball Coach Bob Weier said the following about Sam, “Sam in all likelihood is the best high school pitching coach in southern Minnesota, maybe the entire state. I was lucky enough to benefit immensely from his knowledge. I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive and cooperative assistant. His 13 years spent as a volunteer coach indicates his unselfishness.”

In addition to coaching baseball, Sam has served as a Super Hoopers basketball coach; referee for grade school and B team football; running chains for CHS football games; referee for C squad basketball; weight room monitor; school bus driver for events; four years on the Snowfest committee; class trip chaperone; scoreboard, score book, and charting for CHS basketball; driving floats for Homecoming Parades; decorating the gym for Catholic Schools Week; working with the elementary reading program; and the list goes on and on.

Randy (Sam) Clyne and his wife Jo are both 1973 graduates of CHS. They are the proud parents of CHS grads Tim ’95 and Katie ’00.

Distinguished Athletics – Jeff Schnobrich (’05)

While at Cathedral High School, Jeff Schnobrich was an eight-time letter winner and three-sport athlete, playing football, hockey, and baseball. Schnobrich was named All-Conference in football in both his junior and senior years. Schnobrich had 360 rush attempts while at CHS, carrying for 2,540 yards, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. Schnobrich had 18 rushing touchdowns, 22 receptions, 3 receiving touchdowns, 79 tackles, and 5 interceptions.Schnobrich went on to play football at St. John’s University in Collegeville.

In hockey, Schnobrich had 37 goals and 23 assists. As a senior, he was named team captain, most valuable player, and was the winner of the Hobey Baker Character Award. Schnobrich was named All-Conference for hockey both his junior and senior years. The New Ulm Eagles hockey team won the South Central Conference championship Schnobrich’s sophomore, junior, and senior years.

In baseball, Schnobrich had a .384 career batting average, with 89 hits, 39 RBIs, 73 runs, and 53 stolen bases. Schnobrich was named All-Conference in baseball both his junior and senior years, as well as receiving All-Conference Honorable Mention his sophomore year.

Schnobrich graduated from St. John’s University in 2009 with a degree in Political Science. He worked for three years in Washington, DC and later obtained a master’s degree in Public Administration at the University of Memphis. He currently works as a Legislative Fiscal Analyst for the Kentucky state legislature. Jeff and his wife, Dr. Emilee Parsons, reside in Lexington, KY.

Distinguished Athletics – Allison Betsch (’05)

Betsch was a 12-time letter winner, earning three cross country letters, five in gymnastics, and four in track. Betsch also earned cross country All-Conference honors her junior year. Betsch was voted team captain in cross country her senior year. As a senior, Betsch was given the Leadership Award and Best Runner Award by the cross country team. Betsch was also instrumental in creating the cross country coop opportunity with St. Mary’s in Sleepy Eye.

Betsch was a four-time All-Conference gymnast. She was chosen for the South Central Conference Coaches’ Gymnastics Team four times, and achieved All-State honors four years in gymnastics for maintaining qualifying scores in both individual and all-around events. Betsch was a three-year state competitor in gymnastics, and led the gymnastics team to the SCC team championship title her senior year. She set school records on beam, bars, and all-around, and contributed to team records on vault, bars, beam, and floor. Betsch also led the team in the gymnastics True Team State competition.

In 2005, Betsch received the US Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award.

Betsch graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 2009 with a degree in Psychology. She volunteered for a year with AmeriCorps, then received an Education Specialist degree in School Psychology from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. She currently works as a School Psychologist and resides with her husband, Christopher Brandt, in Tucson, AZ. You can typically find her running through the desert and mountains.
