Court Proceedings

Brown County District Court

• John Everette Lutgen-Bernatz, 26, New Ulm, was charged Tuesday with felony violating a no contact order-within 10 year of the first of two or more convictions. A remote Zoom hearing was set for 8:30 a.m. May 21.

According to court documents, a Brown County Sheriff’s Office peace officer checked the jail roster and noticed Lutgen-Bernatz was on the jail roster for violating a DANCO (domestic abuse no contact order) April 12, according to a New Ulm Police incident report. The peace officer checked jail phone calls and saw Lutgen-Bernatz called the alleged victim’s phone number 20 times from the jail April 17.

Of the 20 call attempts, three were successful and lasted more than eight minutes. The peace officer called the victim’s phone number and heard her voice which sounded the same as the jail phone calls.

The victim told the peace officer Lutgen-Bernatz called her a few times. He was convicted of criminal sexual conduct Feb. 22, 2017 and for violation an order for protection Feb. 8, 2017.
