• Gross misdemeanor escape from custody and misdemeanor tampering with a fire alarm system charges were filed Aug. 12 against Blake J. Cureton, 26, Duluth. A first appearance was set for 10 a.m., Sept. 16, 2021.

According to the complaint, New Ulm Police were dispatched to the Brown County Evaluation Center for a report of a man wearing black clothes escaped the facility and was possibly picked up in a red Oldsmobile Intrigue.

Law enforcement searched the area and did not find Cureton. They learned from facility staff that Cureton was brought there by Springfield Police and won on a hold for domestic assault.

Staff added that another client said Cureton was on the phone before his escape and said something about his brother picking him up.

Cureton’s whereabouts are unknown. A complaint warrant was requested.
