Park & Rec Report

Rec Center Holiday hours: Dec. 24 5-11 a.m., Dec. 26 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Dec. 31 5 a.m.-noon. Due to staff shortage, we are closed Saturday, Jan. 1. Normal Rec Center hours are Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily admission fees are $7 for youth (4-11) and seniors (55+), $9 general admission (12-54) and $3 for playground or walking track only. (There may be short track due to programs and rentals on the courts) There is no open gym Wednesday nights after 7 p.m. until volleyball league is over (late March). Clean shoes only, benches are provided in the lobby and lockers are available for day use in the locker rooms, must provide own lock. We offer several membership options, including discounted punch cards that work well for families; inquire at the welcome desk.

Gift Certificates are available in any denomination at the Welcome Desk. These make excellent gifts!

Indoor Playground is open during Rec Center hours. Shoes must be removed and socks are required. Socks are available for purchase $2/pair.

Open Swim hours: Monday/Wednesday 4-6:30 p.m., Friday 4-8 p.m., Saturday/Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Special no school open swims will be offered Dec. 23, 27 and 29 1-6:30 p.m., and Dec. 28 and 30 from 1-4 p.m.

Current Lap Swim hours are Monday through Friday 5-8 a.m., Monday and Wednesday 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday 7 to 10:30 a.m., Sunday 9-10:30 a.m.

Adult Basketball Open Gym offered Tuesdays 5:30 to 7:30 a.m. and Saturdays 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Pickleball offered Monday through Friday 12:30-2:30 p.m. and Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Adult Men’s Basketball League registration is open. Deadline to register is Jan. 3. Games played Sunday nights Jan. 9 through March. Register online at newulmmn.gov or at the Rec Center.

Lifeguard Certification Class will be held Dec. 27-30 from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Participants must register by Dec. 21 online at newulmmn.gov and be 15 years old by the last class date. Required pre-test consists of completing 300-yard swim using front crawl and breaststroke, treading water for 2 minutes without hands and retrieving 10-pound brick from 7 to 10 feet of water, swimming 20 yards back to the side of the pool and exiting the pool without using a ladder or stairs within 1 minutes and 40 seconds. Certification provides life long skills in CPR, AED, First Aide and water rescue.

Winter/Spring activities brochure will be released on Dec. 20 online at newulmmn.gov. Registration will begin Jan. 5 at 8:30 a.m. Included will be the Weight Loss Challenge, youth and adult pottery, swim lessons and other youth programs. Swim Club will also make a return this winter.

Civic Center open activities

Open skating and open hockey are posted on our website. Check website for current dates/times.

Rock on Ice – Fridays from 7-9 p.m. for ages 12-19. Admission is $5.50 or punch card required.

Broomball – Wednesday nights 6:30-8 p.m. Daily admission or membership applies. Equipment available. Broomball shoes are required to play.

Adult Open Hockey: Wednesday evenings from 8-9 p.m.

Skate rentals are available for $3.

Community Blood Drive – The American Red Cross is in urgent need of blood donations. A community drive will be held at the new Recreation Center, 122 S. Garden St. Jan. 12-14. Give the gift of life, give blood.

The Community Center – CAST Activities have resumed, and the Center is open for activities and programming! Please call 354-3212 or email castnu@newulmtel.net with questions. Meals for shut ins, takeout and in person congregate dining are available by calling 359-2243.

Memorial/Gift Giving Ideas -purchase one or more paver stone(s) with your inscription(s), in the walkways near Hermann Monument and/or German Park for $200 each, contact the Park & Rec office at 359-8344. Park or trail benches range in price from $1,500 to $3,500 each, call 359-8344.

Riverside Environmental Learning Center is closed for renovations.
