Park and Rec Report

Fitness Fundamentals is a new class that provides a small group atmosphere to learn and become comfortable with various types of equipment the Rec Center has to offer! There will be fitness education and hands on practice provided by a certified Personal Trainer. This program will run Tuesdays from 9:30-10:15 a.m. October 27 through December 1. Register at the Rec Center or online at newulmmn.gov.

The Recreation Center is open; walking track, fitness equipment and fitness classes for those age 15 years and up. People may also play basketball, racquetball, pickleball and use open gym (limit of 25), but must be at least 10 years of age or with a parent. Maintain 6-foot physical distance as much as possible. We are allowing walk-ins but they must sign in with name and phone number for contact tracing. Memberships are available as well and can be purchased at the welcome desk. Hours through November 1 are Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Effective November 2 are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday 5 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone entering should perform a self-health screen posted on entrances and not enter if answering yes to any of the questions. Masks are required, but may be removed when exercising or playing. Users must maintain 6-foot physical distance. Please note some areas are not staffed or disinfected. Use at your own risk. Open Pickleball at the Rec Center is Monday through Friday 1 to 2:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9 to 10:30 a.m. You must provide your own equipment. Indoor pickleballs are available for purchase.

The Community Center is closed to the general public, but available for private rentals with conditions. Meals on Wheels and takeout meals are operating. Call 359-2243 for delivery or to reserve a meal for pick up/take out.

The Civic Center is open for private rentals, open skate, figure skating, hockey and Rock on Ice (pre-registration is now required at newulmmn.gov Times may vary this season due to capacity limitations.) They also must have a membership or punch card or be willing to sign in with name and phone number.

German Park Amphitheater Phase 1, the base structure is complete. Thank you to all past donors! Phase 2, the shade structure, along the top row is expected to be funded by the State of Minnesota through the 2020 bonding bill and completed in 2021. Fundraising continues for Phase 3, stage area improvements. Any size donation is greatly appreciated. Checks should be made to City of New Ulm Amphitheater and mailed to Park and Rec. Dept., 122 S. Park restrooms are closed for the season and porta potties removed. Please plan accordingly.

Park athletic nets are removed for the season.

Memorial/Gift Giving Ideas –purchase one or more paver stone(s) with your inscription(s), in the walkways near Hermann Monument and/or German Park for $200 each, contact the Park & Rec office at 359-8344. Park or trail benches range in price from $1,500 to $3,500 each, call 359-8344.
