Resident Highway Engineer E. J. McCubrey informs the Journal that the contractor on the rebuilding and regrading of Highway No. 7 between this city and some three miles west of Cobden has decided that by reason of the inclement weather it would be expedient to suspend operations until the opening of spring.
Overhead Runs Up
With the thermometer hovering around the freezing point together with frequent rain and snow the overhead of keeping grading crews on the job is considerably higher than when the weather is more favorable. This is the principal reason why the contractor called in the crews and suspended the work.
Good Progress Made
Good progress has been made, how-ever on the work. The grading is completed from Sleepy Eye to a point three miles west of Cobden. This includes all the grading work west of Sleepy Eye. About five and a half miles of grading have been completed between New Ulm and Sleepy Eye. This portion of the contract will be finished next spring.
Over 100 Men
Four crews of about 30 men, each, were employed on the grading job since work was commenced several months ago. The men were fed and quartered along the route and were thus near their work.
