United Church of Christ dedication Sunday

EXTERIOR of new United Church of Christ, 301 S. Minn. Architect is Englen Twin Cities.

Dedication services for the new church building of the United Church of Christ, 301 S. Minnesota, are scheduled Sunday. Groundbreaking for the new building was held a year ago, also on the last Sunday in August.

Services Sunday are planned especially for the congregation with an open house for the public set for Sept. 9. The open house will focus on the church’s relationship to the New Ulm Community, according to the Rev. Gary Kasten, church pastor, while this Sunday’s service is planned more for UCC families.

Worship services have been held in the new church since June. After the old building on this site was torn down last fall, most of the Sunday services were held in the church parish hall on Third S. However, for several weeks, during the construction of a new roof joining the parish hall to the new church, services were held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, and other local churches also shared their facilities.

Preceding Sunday’s 10 a.m. dedication and worship service will be a presentation of slides and movies taken during the building process. These will be shown at 9:30 a.m. in the parish hall. Showing pictures will be Hobart Anderson, Dr. T. R. Fritsche, Melvin Oswald and Albert Held.

At 10 a.m. a drum roll by David Emmeck and a trumpet fanfare by Harold Rosener, Jim Schuetzle and Jeff Doe will call the congregation into the new worship area for the presentation of the keys and the dedication service. Following the service, at about 11:45 a.m., a pot-luck dinner will be served in the parish hall.
