THUMBS UP Human Rights Award impressive honor On Wednesday, the New Ulm Human Rights Commission (HRC) held its annual Human Rights Award ceremony. Each year the award is given to individuals or groups that contribute to the advancement of human rights in the community. In recently years, the HRC has expanded the number of recipients. THUMBS UP Farmers Market returns The New Ulm Farmers Market is back in action for the summer season. The first day of the 2026 Farmers Market was Thursday in the River Bend parking lot. The market will be held every Thursday from 2:30-5:30 p.m. until Aug 27 and every Sunday from 9 a.m.-noon until Oct. 10 in the River Bend parking lot. The New Ulm Farmers Market is a wonderful tradition where farm-fresh products are sold directly to customers. The market typically offers a wide variety of products and attracts a crowd. Thumbs Up Outdoor music events return The return of the summer season also means the return of outdoor concerts. The New Ulm Municipal Band held its first German Park performance of the summer Wednesday. The municipal band will continue to hold Wednesday night concerts in German Park throughout the summer, with a few notable exceptions. The Wednesday, June 24 concert will be at Oak Hills as part of their annual Ice Cream Social. Thursday, the Concord Singers performed in German Park to kick off New Ulm Music in the Park Series. THUMBS UP Flowers return to downtown NU Downtown New Ulm is significantly more colorful this week following the annual planting of flowers. A total of 37 planters, 97 pots and 125 hanging baskets were filled with flowers between Tuesday and Thursday. The work was done by over 30 volunteers from several organizations including Sertoma, the New Ulm Gardening Club and New Ulm Chamber of Commerce. THUMBS UP Remember what Memorial Day is all about Memorial Day weekend is here and gives us an opportunity to remember those that have fallen. There are several Memorial Day observances scheduled in the region including those in New Ulm. This year’s Memorial Day celebration will have new meaning in New Ulm. Earlier this month Capt.
