NUFS forecasts “Singin’ in the Rain”

NEW ULM - The New Ulm Film Society’s (NUFS) musical series continues Tuesday, despite a 100% chance of rain with a high probability of singing in it. The screening begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, at the New Ulm Public Library. “Singin’ in the Rain” was released in 1952 and is a contender for the greatest film musical of all time. The film scene for which the movie is named, where Gene Kelly sings and dances his way through a rainstorm, is one of the most iconic and recognizable images from the movies. Brown County to test voting equipment

NEW ULM – Brown County will conduct a public accuracy test (PAT) of its electronic voting equipment. The test will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 17 in the Brown County Law Enforcement Center Training room. Before every election, any election jurisdiction using an electronic voting system must conduct a Public Accuracy Test (PAT) to ensure the equipment is functioning. The public is invited to view the equipment test. The test is being held in advance of the primary election on Tuesday, August 11.

United Way backpack giveaway program

School bells may seem a long way off, but United Way of Brown County, in partnership with Alliance Bank and the Koozie Group, is already working to secure donations for their annual backpack giveaway program. Each year United Way of Brown County gives backpacks full of school supplies to families in Brown County who qualify for educational benefits. Last summer, over 640 backpacks were distributed across Brown County. United Way is currently seeking donations of school supplies. Donation boxes are out in many area businesses.
