Backer named finalist as Freshman of the Year

NEW ULM — Maddie Backer, a freshman from New Ulm, is one of three finalists at Central College at Pella, Iowa, for the Freshman Female Athlete of the Year. Backer finished as runner-up for the Freshman Athlete of the Year in the American Rivers Conference. The award winner is announced later in the spring.

The MLC men's golf team competed on Saturday at Eagle Creek Golf Club along with other UMAC schools for the UMAC Spring Event.
