NEW ULM — New Ulm Junior Legion defeated St. Peter 9-1 in a weather-shortened game Tuesday at Mueller Park.
The game was called after 4 1/2 innings.
Despite the short game, New Ulm’s bats shined, collecting nine hits as a team, including two doubles, two triples and two inside-the-park home runs.
Parker Ranweiler was the winning pitcher for New Ulm, striking out four and allowing no runs on one hit in two innings of work. At the plate, Kaden Stueber was 3 for 3 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs, while Ryler Collins was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. Owen Castleman was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, while Trevor Thordson had a double. Ranweiler had a double and an RBI.
Stueber had his triple in the first inning, followed by Collin’s inside-the-park homer to right-center field for a 2-0 lead. New Ulm put up four more runs in the second, with Ranweiler earning an RBI double, Castleman hitting an RBI triple, and Stueber getting his inside-the-parker on a hard-hit grounder that was just fair down the first base line and ended up in the corner. Castleman and Stueber had back-to-back singles in the first, with Castleman plating one run and Stueber bringing home two for a 9-1 lead. St. Peter had its lone run of the game in the top of the fourth, but the game was called after the third out of the fourth inning, with thunder and some rain in the close vicinity.
New Ulm (9-2) begins the Sioux Falls Invitational on Friday with a game against East Grand Forks at 2:30 p.m.
