Area roundup: Nicollet boys, Sleepy Eye girls win
BOYS BASKETBALL
Nicollet 85, St. Mary’s 65
NICOLLET — The Nicollet Raiders downed the Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Knights 85-65 on Monday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover boys basketball game.
The Raiders were led by Carson Kettner 26 points and 18 rebounds, while Henry Kennedy had 24 points and 11 rebounds and Abe Madson had 16 points.
Adam Steffensmeier led the Knights with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Michael Balko had 14 points and five rebounds. Eli Christensen added 12 points, while Brecken Hulke had 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Nicollet (20-4) is at Medford on Thursday night, while St. Mary’s (14-10) hosts Madelia on Thursday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Sleepy Eye 80,
Cleveland 55
CLEVELAND — Sleepy Eye downed Cleveland 80-55 on Monday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover girls basketball game.
Taylor Berkner led Sleepy Eye with 31 points, six rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block, while Jaelynn Schauman had 20 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Jace Schauman added 19 points, six rebounds, eight steals and five assists, while Alexis Hoffman had 8 points and seven rebounds and Destiney Dittbenner had 7 points and four steals.
Sleepy Eye (15-11) awaits Section 2A playoffs, which begin Monday.
Springfield 66, TMB 61
SPRINGFIELD — Springfield topped Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 66-61 on Monday night in a nonconference girls basketball game.
Makay Winkelmann led the Tigers in the win with 17 points and five assists, while Kendall Krueger had 13 points and 17 rebounds. Also for Springfield, Jada Reese had 12 points, three assists and three steals, while Olivia Milbrath had 11 points and 14 rebounds and Noelle Reese had 11 points.
Springfield (11-13) is at Windom for a nonconference game Tuesday.
Maple River 54, MVL 46
NEW ULM — Minnesota Valley Lutheran fell to Maple River 54-46 on Monday in a South Central Conference girls basketball game.
Violet Hammer led the Chargers with 16 points, while Avery Freier had 8 points and four rebounds and Avery Hahn had 6 points and four steals. Olivia Hammer added 6 points and five rebounds for MVL.
MVL (15-10, 5-5) awaits Section 2AA playoffs, which begin Monday.

Cedar Mountain 59
BIRD ISLAND — Cedar Mountain fell to BOLD 83-59 on Monday night in a nonconference girls basketball game.
Aubrey Steffl led the Cougars in the loss with 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals, while Kendra Erickson had 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Grace Hamre added 8 points for the Cougars, while Marlie Wildt had 7 points and five rebounds.
Cedar Mountain (20-5) is at Hector to take on Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a 5 p.m. Tomahawk Division game Tuesday.
