NEW ULM – It was nothing but impressive.
The Springfield Tigers took a 47-17 halftime lead and went on to run by New Ulm Cathedral 90-30 Tuesday night in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Brecken Heiling led four Tigers (10-3, 7-1) in double figures with 18 points.
Madden Lendt and Parker Kuehn each added 17, with Isaac Fredin contributing 10 points. Lendt also had 11 rebounds.
Eli Anderson paced the Greyhounds (3-9, 3-8), scoring 23 of the 30 Cathedral points.

“Springfield has had a lot of games like that this year,” Cathedral head coach Zach Kaiser said. “They are really hard to game-plan for.
“We really wanted to focus on things that we could take care of and for the first five minutes of the first half we limited our live ball turnovers, which was a point of emphasis for us. And we did not do a good job of rebounding — we are outsized by everyone we play.”
Not doing those things was the perfect storm for the Tigers.
Springfield jumped to a 17-10 lead and then ran off 13 straight points to grab a 30-10 lead on two baskets from Kuehn and a Lendt basket.
Springfield head coach Lance Larson said he liked his team’s effort in the win.
“The one thing I like is when they play hard and they played hard, tonight,” he said. “And we forced a lot of turnovers and we did not have a lot ourselves.”
Springfield increased that 30-10 lead by forcing 16 Cathedral first half turnovers and score 16 points off of them taking a comfortable 47-17 halftime lead.
“When they steal the ball, they have their weak-side guy start to run the floor and they trust each other that they are going to come up with the steal,” Kaiser said. “And then they are able to break on the other end.”
The Tigers forced 10 more Cathedral turnovers — 26 for the game compared to just seven for the Tigers in the game — in the second half and increased the lead to 75-25 on a 3 from Kuehn with just over nine minutes left in the game.
“We have a big game at home with Sleepy Eye on Thursday, so that is what we are looking forward to now,” Kaiser said.
Springfield is at Redwood Valley on Friday.
