NEW ULM — New Ulm set a season high in scoring with a 134.225-126.725 win over Luverne Tuesday in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet on Tuesday.

“Overall we had a really good day,” New Ulm head coach Kortney Peterson said. “A lot of strong routines on all four events put together. This was a season-high this year, so strength overall was kind of the goal for the day.”

It was the first meet in the season that New Ulm had its full varsity roster available and healthy, resulting in the season record.

Another season-best score was seen from New Ulm’s Sophia Berger, who broke her previous season best from Thursday with a 33.575 all around score to win the meet.

“I was really proud of my beam today,” Berger said. “I’ve been working hard on controlling any wobbles, and I thought I did a pretty good job keeping myself centered and grounded on the beam, making sure I didn’t wobble too much. I was really happy with my bars as well, I had a pretty clean bar routine.”

Berger placed first on the floor with a 9.05, second on beam with an 9.725, fourth on bars with a 7.45 and ninth on vault with an 8.35.

“I make sure that I’m consistent at practice,” Berger said. “I train the way I want to compete. No shortcuts during practice. If something doesn’t go well, I make sure I can do it over and over again until I get it right.”
