WACONIA — The New Ulm Eagles girls hockey team was shut out 5-0 by Waconia on Friday night in a nonconference girls hockey opener at the Waconia City Ice Arena.

Waconia scored two goals in the first period before upping the lead to 4-0 in the second and tacking on the fifth goal at 3:47 of the third period.

Becca Dhaene led Waconia with two goals on the night.

New Ulm goalie Ava Schmid stopped 25 shots in the game, while the Eagles finished with 17 shots on goal.

Both teams commited six penalties in the game, no power-play goals were scored.

New Ulm (0-1) is at Willmar next on Nov. 15 for another nonconference game.
