Area roundup: Greyhounds, Tigers, Rabbits roll to victory

PREP FOOTBALL

Cathedral 34, BLHS 0

HECTOR — Quarterback Eli Anderson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the New Ulm Cathedral Greyhounds to a 34-0 shutout of the Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Mustangs on Friday night in a Nine-Man South District, West Subdistrict football game.

Anderson finished the game completing 7 of 11 passes for 222 yards and two scores while rushing for 32 yards and a TD on seven carries. He also completed a 2-point conversion pass. Alex Portner also had a big game for the Greyhounds on the ground, racking up 106 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Lane Ruch added seven carries for 20 yards and a TD on the ground, while Josh Forstner led the team in receiving with four catches for 146 yards, two TDs and a 2-point conversion. Andrew Stern added two catches for 61 yards.

For the Cathedral defense, Mason Springer, Evan Blekestad and Henry Forst were each in on 13 tackles, while Ike Kirschstein had 12 tackles and a blocked punt and Camden Berg had 12 tackles, a sack and an interception.

No statistics were reported for BLHS.

Cathedral (1-1) is in Morgan to take on Cedar Mountain next on Friday night.

Springfield 33, MCC 15

SPRINGFIELD — After a scoreless first quarter, the Springfield Tigers got three consecutive touchdowns in the second quarter and used that to down Murray County Central 33-15 in a Mid-South District, Purple Subdistrict football game on Friday night.

Parker Kuehn had 262 yards through the air and fourh TD passes for the Tigers, with Isaac Fredin being his go-to target as he hauled in nine passes for 101 yards and four TDs. Madden Lendt added three catches for 64 yards, while Kadyn Anderson had two grabs for 24 yards, Braxton Brown had a 47-yard catch and Aiden Moriarty had a 26-yard catch. Paytin Johnson had 14 carries for 58 yards and a TD to lead the Tigers on the ground.

For the Springfield defense, Tyson Horkey had a sack, while Eli Trevino, Ely Streich, Johnson and Adiel Trevino each recovered a fumble.

Springfield (2-0) is at Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Friday.

Wabasso 22,

Cedar Mountain 0

WABASSO — Wabasso shut out Cedar Mountain on Friday night in a Nine-Man South District, West Subdistrict football game.

Joe Rohlik led the Rabbits on the ground with 22 carries for 172 yards and two TDs, while quarterback Drew Kemp completed 8 of 11 passes for 85 yards. Zach Skoblik added 14 carries for 76 yards and a TD also, while Nolan Leopold had six carries for 51 yards.

On defense, Mason Kampsen led the Rabbits with nine tackles, while Rohlik had six tackles and an interception, Jack Burns had six tackles and Leopold had an interception. Kampsen and Zeke Olson combined for a sack also for the Rabbits.

The Rabbits had 24 first downs to the Cougars’ eight and won the battle in total yards 425-165. The Rabbits also were 6 for 9 on third down, while the Cougars were 2 for 17.

No individual statistics were reported for Cedar Mountain.

Wabasso (2-0) hosts Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman on Friday, while Cedar Mountain (0-2) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Friday.

SJA 6, GFW 0

ST. JAMES — St. James Area held on in a low-scoring affair against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday night, winning 6-0 in a Mid-South District, Gold Subdistrict football game.

SJA had 176 total yards of offense to GFW’s 136 yards. GFW was 2 for 11 on third downs, while SJA was 1 for 9. The lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard TD run by Reggie Blom.

Leading GFW on offense was Garrett Stegeman, who had 12 carries for 59 yards, while Owen Swenson had 11 carries for 54 yards. On defense for GFW, Luke Bastian led with six tackles, while Stegeman had three tackles for a loss and a sack.

GFW (1-1) hosts Mayer Lutheran on Thursday.

BOYS SOCCER

New Ulm 6, Hutchinson 0

HUTCHINSON — The New Ulm Eagles moved to 7-0 on the season with a 6-0 win over Hutchinson on Friday in a nonconference boys soccer game.

The Eagles had three goals in each half.

Jackson Ocampo led the Eagles with two goals, one in each half, while adding an assist. Levi Johnson scored the first goal of the game for New Ulm, while Methodius Amoah added two goals and Brevinn Vandermause had a goal. Logan Goblirsch added two assists for New Ulm, while Johnson and Logan Enter each had an assist.

New Ulm hosts St. Peter on Tuesday night.
