NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Sport Fisherman (NUASF) annual youth fishing event, known as Get Hooked on Fishing! was without its fishing contest for the second consecutive year as the Minnesota River was once again too high.
NUASF still held other events at Riverside Park on Wednesday, giving away prizes to the youth that came down to the park, but the fishing contest was cancelled due to safety concerns with the river. Still, NUASF hosted the event with a meal and gave away prizes such as fishing equipment and toy rods for those that attended. Some particpants braved the river anyways, standing on dry parts of the shore and the boat landing to cast out their reels in hopes for a bite.
