Two Region 2C state spots on the line Friday
SLEEPY EYE/SPRINGFIELD — This Friday night, the final two teams in this year’s Class C Amateur Baseball State Tournament from Region 2C will be decided, with one game at Sleepy Eye Ballpark and one in Springfield at Riverside Park.
At 7:30 p.m. in Sleepy Eye, Milroy will take on Leavenworth in a win-or-go home game to determine one of the final state participants from Region 2C, while the Springfield Tigers will host Lamberton at 7:30 p.m. in another win-or-go-home game with a state berth on the line. The winners will earn a state bid and play each other at 3 p.m. Saturday in Sleepy Eye, with the winner getting the third seed from Region 2C and the loser getting the fourth and final Region 2C seed at state.
Leavenworth entered the Region 2C tournament as the No. 2 seed from the Tomahawk East League, while Milroy was the No. 2 seed from the Corn Belt League.
Springfield entered the 2C tourney as the No. 3 seed from the TEL, while Lamberton was the No. 4 seed from the TEL.
The Courtland Cubs, the No. 1 TEL seed in the 2C tourney, and the Hanska Lakers, the fifth seed from the TEL, have already guaranteed a top two Region 2C seed in the state tournament after their wins this past Saturday. The Cubs beat Milroy 5-2 to clinch a state berth, while the Lakers used a nine-run ninth inning to beat Springfield 13-4 and punch their state ticket.
