ARLINGTON — New Ulm’s Broddy Enter had to withstand three caution flags and a host of hungry drivers Wednesday night at the Sibley County Stock Car Shootout, but the task proved to be no problem for him to handle in the end.
There were 77 total entered racers taking to Arlington Raceway, a 1/2-mile dirt oval track, with bigger winnings on the line among three special classes.
Racing in the co-main event feature of the evening, the Arlington State Bank IMCA Northern SportMod, Broddy Enter secured his fourth feature win of the season in Arlington for an $800 prize.
Broddy Enter started in the pole position and never lost a lap, but there were three cautions during the 25-lap SportMod feature. He came close to losing a lap at one point after the third caution with less than 10 laps remaining when the 7L car of Madison Lake’s Eric Larson briefly passed him on the inside on Turn 2.
Powered by his Chevy 350, Broddy Enter quickly took the outside back on Turn 3, however, and never let off from there to cruise to victory, with his best lap time coming on Lap 3 when he had a time of 19.721 seconds.

“The biggest thing is to just stay calm when you got somebody on your inside,” Broddy Enter said. “You can’t get nervous or you’ll mess up. You’ve just gotta stay calm, and if you got your momentum rolling on the outside and they’re not getting past you on the bottom, you’ll most likely be all right.”
The first of those three caution flags involved Broddy Enter’s dad, Ben Enter, who returned to racing action this year after an 11-year absence.
After finishing the race 11th, Ben Enter joked that he was happy to be racing with his son but was hoping to catch up to him and race alongside him eventually.
Broddy Enter, who finished second in the second of three heat races before the main SportMod feature, said the track improved for him in between the heat race and the main feature and he was happy with the adjustments he made in between.
“The heat race was pretty hammered down, we were a little bit tight, which was all right,” Broddy Enter said. “Then it dried out more than I thought it was gonna. I’m really happy I tightened the car up quite a bit, so it slicked off quite a bit.”

With it being his fourth win of the year at Arlington Raceway, his last win coming July 19 at the FRH & RSS Sanitation Night, Broddy Enter said his success this year comes down to just getting on the track more.
“Honestly, just track time,” he said. “This was my 30th night so far this year, doing about three nights a week. The sponsors and everyone behind me, I wouldn’t be able to do it without them.”
Finishing behind Broddy Enter and Larson were Mankato’s Eric Bassett, Mapleton’s Jeff Carter and Arlington’s Ben Reierson. Winthrop’s Scott Koep made the biggest jump during the race, climbing from the No. 21 spot to finish in 12th place.
After the heats were completed, the night started with the B feature of the BB Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Cars event. The top four in the event qualified for the final A feature at the end of the night. Luke Sathoff took first in the B feature, while Justin Luinenburg took second, Jed Trebelhorn took third and Brent Uecker took fourth.
The action continued with the Jack Pines Resort IMCA Hobby feature. Brewster’s Cory Probst, the points leader in the IMCA Hobby feature this season, was once again dominant as he led the final 13 of 20 total laps to take the checkered flag. After starting in the No. 8 spot, Probst caught up to the No. 32 car of Lake Crystal’s Chad Volk, who started in the pole position and dropped to second after Lap 8, where he stayed the remainder of the race. Marshall’s Jordan Robinson took third, while Arlington’s Brad Becker took fourth and New Ulm’s Brad Jones finished fifth out of 20 cars.

After Broddy Enter’s win in the SportMod, the A feature of the 30-lap BB Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Cars race took place, with the No. 92 car of Hamburg’s Dan Mackenthun taking first and winning the top prize on the night of $5,000. Mackenthun started the race in the third spot and took second in Lap 2, pulling ahead of Boone, Iowa’s Jake McBirnie in Lap 8. McBirnie ended up finishing the race second, while Fertile, Iowa’s Kelly Shyrock took third, West Burlington, Iowa’s John Oliver Jr. took fourth and St. Peter’s Daniel Eckblad took fifth out of 24 entrants.
