WASECA — New Ulm downed Waseca 10-3 in five innings in a Big South Conference baseball game on Friday.

The game was called after five innings due to weather.

Colin Forstner earned the win for New Ulm, striking out three while allowing one earned run on one hit in two innings. Cullen Slette made the start, striking out four and allowing two unerned runs on two hits in three innings. At the plate for the Eagles, Zach Hubbard was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and four runs scored, while Dirk Haynes was 2 for 4 with two RBUs and a run scored. Owen Castleman was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Ryan Rathman had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

New Ulm (13-5, 10-2) hosts Mankato East on Tuesday.

Wabasso 5, MACCRAY 1 (5 innings)

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated MACCRAY 5-1 in five innings in a nonconference baseball game on Friday.

The game was called after five innings due to weather.

Drew Kemp earned the win for Wabasso, striking out two and allowing one hit and one walk in 1 1/3 innings. Jack Bruns made the start, striking out six and allowing one run on three hits and four walks in 3 2/3 innings.

At the plate for the Rabbits, Calvin Hanna had three hits and a run scored, while Jaxon Wagner had a double and two RBIs and Caden Frericks had a double.

Wabasso (5-12) hosts Central Minnesota Christian on Monday.

ARLINGTON — Sibley East downed Maple River 3-1 and 5-4 in a South Central Conference baseball doubleheader on Thursday.

Quintin DeVlaeminck earned the win for the Wolverines in Game 1, striking out eight while allowing one unearned run on five hits and one walk in a complete game. At the plate, Caden Willmsen and Leyton Dose each had a hit and an RBI, with Willmsen adding a run scored, while Will Feterl and Evan Pautsch had a hit and a run scored.

Willmsen earned the win in Game 2, striking out 11 while allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits in 6 2/3 innings. At the plate, Feterl was 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Pautsch had a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Nate Colling added a hit and a run scored.

Sibley East (13-6, 8-2) awaits playoff seeding.

St. Mary’s 8, Wabasso 3

Wabasso 4, St. Mary’s 0

WABASSO — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s split a Tomahawk Division softball doubleheader on Friday, with the Knights winning the opening game 8-3 and the Rabbits taking the second game 4-0.

Leading St. Mary’s in the Game 1 win was Reese Hoffmann, who was 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Eva Schweiss was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Josie Helget and Taylor Mathiowetz each had a double and an RBI also for the Knights. Natalie Zarn got the complete-game win, allowing seven hits and four walks for two earned runs while striking out six.

For Wabasso in Game 1, Sara Carlson led the way at the plate by going 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Kayleigha Johnson doubled and had an RBI. Aylah Jenniges took the loss in all seven innings, allowing nine hits and a walk for three earned runs while striking out five.

In Wabasso’s shutout Game 2 win, the Rabbits got a bounce-back from Aylah Jenniges in the circle as she allowed just one hit and one walk for a complete-game shutout. She struck out seven.

At the plate for Wabasso, Payton Jenniges was 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs, while Carlson had a hit and an RBI.

For the Knights in Game 2, Helget had the lone hit, a double. Mathiowetz took the loss in all seven innings pitched, allowing five hits and five walks for one earned run while striking out four.

Playoffs await both teams next, with the Knights taking on Sleepy Eye in a first-round Section 2A playoff game Tuesday in Sleepy Eye and the Rabbits hosting Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in a Section 3A playoff game.

Eagles boys win

at TCU Invite

MONTGOMERY — The New Ulm Eagles boys golf team won a Tri-City United Golf Invite on Thursday with a score of 315, defeating seven other teams.

The Waseca boys took second at the invite with a 338.

The girls’ side of the meet was won by Le Sueur-Henderson (386). The Eagles girls took fourth out of nine teams with a score of 441.

The New Ulm boys were led by Jaxon Buegler and Colton Anderson, who both carded a 77 to finish as the boys co-medalists. Also for New Ulm, Brayden Wendinger turned in an 80 to finish sixth at the meet, while Brecken Neuman shot an 81 to finish seventh and round out New Ulm’s score.

The New Ulm girls saw Brogan Thordson lead with a 107 for 11th, while Rory Juberien shot a 108 to take 14th. Maddy Wellmann shot a 112 for 20th also for New Ulm, while Lillian Kral rounded out New Ulm’s score with a 114 for 23rd.
