ESSIG — The New Ulm Brewers rolled the Essig Bluejays 14-0 in seven innings in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Sunday.
Mitch Bockenstedt earned the win for New Ulm, striking out 12 and allowing two hits in six innings. At the plate, Josh Seidl was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Andrew Peters was 2 for 6 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Ethan Thompson was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Justin Hoffmann and Lucas Suess each had two hits and an RBI.
Eric Scheibel took the loss for the Bluejays, allowing eight unearned runs on six hits in one inning. At the plate, Mason Sellner was 2 for 3, while Carson Helget and Hunter Lewandowski each had a hit.
New Ulm (1-0) hosts Lake Crystal in nonleague play on Wednesday, while Essig (0-1) hosts Leavenworth on Sunday.
Sleepy Eye 9, Searles 6
SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye Indians defeated the Searles Grizzlies 9-6 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game Sunday.
Marcus Martinez earned the win for Sleepy Eye, striking out three while allowing six runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings. At the plate, Matt Mielke was 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Kaleb Butenhoff had a hit and two RBIs. Nick Mielke had a hit and an RBI.
Tony Geiger took the loss for Searles, striking out four while allowing three runs on two hits and four walks. Casey Lux made the start, allowing five runs on five hits with two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. At the plate, Ben Dumorceaux was 2 for 4, while Isaiah Reiser had a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Kasey Cuck added an RBI and a run scored.
Sleepy Eye (1-0) plays at Hanska on Sunday, while Searles (0-1) plays at Springfield on Sunday.
