TRUMAN — Madelia’s Tate Becker pitched five perfect innings as the Blackhawks rolled Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 15-0 in five innings in a Valley Division baseball game on Tuesday.

Becker struck out 14 batters on his way to the win, fanning all but one batter he faced. At the plate, Noel Davila was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and three runs scored, while Dalton Tatro was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Kyle Pietsch had a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Chase Osborne was 3 for 4 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Evan Coil added two RBIs and two runs scored.

Madelia (13-5, 6-2) plays at St. James on Friday.

MONTGOMERY — New Ulm swept Tri-City United 5-4 and 6-4 in eight innings in a Big South Conference baseball doubleheader on Tuesday.

Mitchell Hopp earned the win in Game 1, striking out six while allowing three runs on three hits in five innings. Candon Brigs got the save in two innings of relief, striking out three and allowing one run on two hits.

At the plate, Levi Hopp was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Cohen Domeier was 2 for 2 with an RBI. Ben Alfred and Ryan Rathmann each had a hit and an RBI.

Mitchell Hopp also earned the win in Game 2, striking out three in two scoreless innings. Dirk Haynes made the start, striking out six and allowing four runs, two earned, in six innings.

At the plate, Levi Hopp was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Owen Castleman had a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored. Domeier, Kyle Albrecht, Haynes and Alfred each had a hit and a run scored.

New Ulm (12-5, 9-2) travels to play Waseca on Friday.

LCWM 8, St. Mary’s 3

LAKE CRYSTAL — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s fell to Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 8-3 on Tuesday in a nonconference baseball game.

Kameron Kosak led St. Mary’s at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a run scored, while Merrick Mathiowetz was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Mathiowetz also took the loss on the mound in 3 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and four walks for six earned runs while striking out two.

St. Mary’s (9-10) will host Lyle/Austin-Pacelli at Eagles Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

PREP SOFTBALL

Wabasso 11, Nicollet 1

NICOLLET — Wabasso downed Nicollet 11-1 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover softball game.

Both teams had 10 hits, but the Raiders had eight errors to Wabasso’s zero.

Audrey Johnson led Wabasso at the plate, going 3 for 5 with three runs scored, while Kayleigha Johnson was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Aylah Jenniges got the complete-game win in the circle for the Rabbits, allowing 10 hits and one walk for one earned run while striking out four.

Nicollet was led by Jazmyn Goettlicher, who was 2 for 3 at the plate. Leah Bode took the loss in all seven innings, allowing 10 hita and two walks for two earned runs while striking out three.

Wabasso (13-4) is at Jackson County Central for a nonconference game Thursday, while Nicollet (10-6) awaits playoffs.

MCW 8, Sleepy Eye 1

WELCOME — Martin County West defeated Sleepy Eye 8-1 in a nonconference softball game on Tuesday.

Taylor Berkner took the loss, striking out three and allowing five earned runs on nine hits. At the plate, Paige Haala was 2 for 4 with a run scored, while Callie Evers had an RBI and Taylor Berkner had a double.

Sleepy Eye (14-5) awaits playoff seeding.

Cleveland 8, St. Mary’s 2

CLEVELAND — Cleveland downed Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 8-2 in a nonconference softball game on Tuesday.

Natalie Zarn took the loss, striking out four while allowing eight runs on 13 hits. At the plate, Olivie Schieffert was 1 for 1 with two walks and a run scored, while Kailey Nelson had a hit and an RBI. Sidney Tauer and Nell Weiss each had a hit.

St. Mary’s (4-13) plays a doubleheader at Wabasso on Friday.

LE SUEUR — Le Sueur-Henderson swept Minnesota Valley Lutheran 15-0 and 12-1 in a South Central Conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday.

Nora Grace Otto too the loss in Game 1, striking out two and allowing 15 runs on eight hits and five walks. At the plate, Jess Meunier, Grace Onken and Briley Henderson each had a hit.

Kaitlyn Stadick took the loss in Game 2, striking out two while allowing 12 runs on eight hits and eight walks. At the plate, Henderson had a hit and an RBI, whle Karlee Prahl, Morgan Black and Tavyn Gunderson had hits and Onken scored a run.

MVL (2-17, 2-8) plays Cleveland on Friday.

PREP GOLF

New Ulm boys take 3rd in Big South Championship

MORTON — The New Ulm boys golf team finished third on Tuesday in the Big South Conference Boys Golf Championship with a score of 339.

St. Peter won with a 312, while Marshall took second (325). Waseca was fourth with a 350, followed by Tri-City United (352), Blue Earth Area (356), Luverne (357), Jackson County Central (357), Belle Plaine (358), Redwood Valley (363), Windom Area (364), Worthington (367), Fairmont (372) and Pipestone Area (379).

St. Peter’s Ethan Moreau was the medalist with a 74. New Ulm wa led by Mason Buegler, who shot an 81 to tie for eighth.

New Ulm also saw Brandt Munson shoot an 84 to take 13th, while Jaxon Buegler, Brody Wenner and Brecken Neuman each shot an 87 to tie for 19th.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye United swept Madelia in a prep golf meet on Tuesday, with the girls winning 186-243 and the boys winning 165-185.

SEU’s Chloe Walter won the girls’ side of the meet, scoring a 44. She was followed by SEU’s Sam Price (45), Ella Pollard (48) and Kiara Murphy (49) and Madelia’s Katherine DeVlaeminck (51).

SEU’s Nolan Kucera won the boys’ side of the meet with a 39, followed by Madelia’s Laiken Melzer (40) and SEU’s George Schwint and Josh Sellner (41) and Blaine Arneson and Isaac Christensen (44).

Springfield boys 172, Cedar Mountain 172, GFW 193

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield and Cedar Mountain tied for the lead in a boys golf meet on Tuesday, with both teams scoring a 172.

Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop took third with a 193.

Cedar Mountain’s Thomas Dahmes won the meet with a 39, followed by Springfield’s Braiden Davis and Cedar Mountain’s Blake Schueller (41), Springfield’s Dylan Simonson and GFW’s Cole Jacobson (42) and Springfield’s Braxton Brown and Isaac Fredin and Cedar Mountain’s Carson Schiller (44).
