NEW ULM — New Ulm Cathedral swept Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 8-0 and 8-2 in a Tomahawk Division softball game on Tuesday.
Jayde Altermatt earned thew in in Game 1, striking out eight while allowing two hits in four innings. Abbey Hilleshiem pitched three hitless innings, striking out six. At the plate, Brynne Wilfahrt was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Abbey Hillesheim was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Ava Schmid had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
Chloe Schultz took the loss for BLHS in Game 1, striking out four while allowing eight runs on seven hits and three walks. At the plate for the Mustangs, Ellie Ovitt and Kelsey Ulrich each had a hit.
Abbey Hillesheim got the win in Game 2 for Cathedral, striking out four while allowing two runs on four hits in four innings. At the plate, Ashlynn Hilleshiem was 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Jaylin Hartness was 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Madelyn Haala was 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Abbey Hillesheim was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Ava Brennan had a hit and two runs scored.
Addison Gee took the loss for BLHS, striking out two and allowing three earned runs on 12 hits. At the plate, Schultz had a hit and two RBIs, while Ulrich and Sadie Kirtz each had a hit and a run scored.
Cathedral (13-2, 11-1) plays in a tournament at Windom Area on Saturday, while BLHS (6-8, 4-7) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday.
Maple River 10, MVL 0

Game 2)
NEW ULM — Maple River swept Minnesota Valley Lutheran 10-0 and 10-1 on Tuesday in a South Central Conference softball doubleheader.
In Game 1, the Eagles scored six runs in the second inning which helped them to earn the victory.
Nora Grace Otto took the loss for MVL. She pitched five innings. She gave up eight runs, six earned, on six hits. She struck out two batters and walked five.
Otto, Morgan Black, Karlee Prahl and Jessica Meunier each collected one hit for MVL.
In Game 2, Maple River scored two runs in the first inning and four runs in the third inning and it never looked back.
Katlyn Stadick took the loss for MVL in Game 2. She pitched six innings, gave up 10 runs, nine earned, on six hits. She had nine walks and two strikeouts.
Briley Henderson scored the Chargers’ lone run in the second inning.
MVL (3-14, 2-6) will play against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (6-8, 4-5) at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Hector City Field.
USC 3, Sleepy Eye 2

WELLS — United South Central’s Mariah Anderson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Rebels past Sleepy on Tuesday in a nonconference softball game. The Rebels are ranked No. 1 in the State Class A polls.
Anderson is also the state strikeout leader as she recorded 14 strikeouts. She gave up 12 hits.
Taylor Berkner took the loss. She gave up three runs on nine hits and she struck out 14 batters.
At the plate for Sleepy Eye, Callie Evers went 4 for 5 with one RBI. Paige Haala went 3 for 5 with one run scored. She also had a double and a triple. Brissa Hernandez went 2 for 4 with one RBI. Jace Schauman went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Sleepy Eye (10-4, 8-3) will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (2-10, 2-6) on Thursday in a doubleheader.
Nicollet 8, Cleveland 7 (Game 1)

NICOLLET — Nicollet swept Cleveland 8-7 and 11-9 in a Valley Division softball doubleheader on Tuesday.
Bode earned the win in Game 1, striking out five while allowing four earned runs on eight hits. At the plate, Madison Kettner was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Kamryn Truebenbach was 1 for 2 with three RBIs. Bode nad Jazmyn Goettlicher each had a hit and an RBI with two runs scored.
Lydia Martens earned the win in Game 2 for Nicollet, striking out three while allowing one earned run on four hits in 3 2/3 innings. At the plate, Chloe Kachelmeier was 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs with three runs scored, while Cason Forbrook was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Zoie Rengstorf was 2 for 5 with an RBI, while Truebenbach was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Bode and Taylor Wiling each had a hit, with Bode adding two RBIs and Wilking adding one RBI.
Nicollet (8-4, 4-1) hosts Martin County West on Thursday.

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey edged Madelia on Tuesday in a nonconference softball game.
Payton Bruns took the loss. She went six innings, gave up seven runs, five earned, on 11 hits. She had two walks and nine strikeouts.
Bruns went 2 for 4. Makayla Sorenson went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Lauryn Grev went 1 for 4 with two runs scored. Grace Tatro went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Kellie Koberoski went 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Libby Jensen went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Madelia (4-11, 0-5) will host St. Clair/Loyola on Thursday in a doubleheader.

NICOLLET — Nicollet defeated Mountain Lake Area in a nonconference softball game on Monday.
Leah Bode earned the win, striking out four while allowing one earned run on six hits and four walks. At the plate, Jazmyn Goettlicher was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Zoie Rengstorf was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Chloe Kachelmeier was 2 for 4 with a double, while Cason Forbrook had a double and two RBIs.

BELLE PLAINE — New Ulm soared past Belle Plaine on Tuesday in a Big South Conference boys baseball game.
Kolton Achman earned the win for the Eagles. He pitched five innings, he gave up one run on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Zach Hubbard went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs to lead New Ulm at the plate. Owen Castleman went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Tanner Backer went 1 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Ben Alfred went 1 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Levi Hopp went 1 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Cohen Domeier went 1 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs.
New Ulm (8-3, 5-1) will host Worthington at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in a doubleheader.

WELCOME — Martin County West downed Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover baseball game.
Kameron Kosak took the loss for the Knights. He pitched three innings, gave up nine runs, three earned, on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Kessler Severson went 2 for 3 with two hits. Kameron Kosak went 1 for 3, Landry Folkens went 1 for 3 and Wyatt Pollard went 1 for 2.
SESM (7-7, 6-3) will play Sleepy Eye (7-6, 5-3) on Thursday in a doubleheader.
Springfield 3, GFW 2
FAIRFAX– Springfield edged Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Division baseball game.
Springfield’s Russell Beers went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Jackson Ludewig went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Kade Nachreiner went 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Leo Hovland went 1 for 3 with a run scored.
GFW’s Owen Swenson went 1 for 4 with two runs scored. Luke Bastian went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Noah Mueller earned the win for the Tigers. He pitched four innings, gave up two runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Layton Uecker-Hamre took the loss for the Thunderbirds. He pitched six innings, gave up two runs on eight hits. He waked two and he struck out six batters.
GFW (3-11, 1-8) will play Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (7-7, 6-3) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday in Fairfax. Springfield (13-1, 10-0) will host New Ulm Cathedral (11-1, 9-1) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Riverside Park in Springfield.

MILROY — Wabasso downed Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 13-11 in a nonconference baseball game on Tuesday.
Zach Skoblik earned the win for Wabasso, striking out five while allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits in four innings. At the plate, Jayden Remiger had 4 hits with a home run and a triple with three RBIs, while Jack Burns had two hits with two RBIs and Calvin Hanna had a double and two RBIs.
Wabasso (3-10) plays a doubleheader at Lester Prairie on Friday.
Sibley East 2, LCWM 1
LAKE CRYSTAL — Sibley East downed Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 2-1 in a South Central Conference baseball game on Tuesday.
Caden Willmsen earned the win for the Wolverines, striking out nine and allowing one run on four hits in six innings pitched. At the plate, Carson Schmidt was 2 for 4 while Evan Pautsch and Riley Bussler were each 1 for 3 with a run scored.
Sibley East (10-4, 6-2) plays at Belle Plaine on Thursday.
BOYS TENNIS
Waseca 7, New Ulm 0
WASECA — Waseca swept New Ulm in a Big South Conference boys tennis meet on Tuesday.
New Ulm took three matches to three sets. New Ulm’s Dan Brownfield lost to Henry Huttemier 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Nico Del Castillo fell to Allen Kopetzki 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 at No. 4 singles. Wyatt Feucht and Thomas Lehne took a 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 loss to Lucas McQuery and Tanner Hanson at No. 2 doubles.

GFW boys 190, Wabasso 232, BLHS inc.
Wabasso girls 239, GFW 248, BLHS inc.
SANBORN — Gibbon-Winthrop-Fairfax downed Wabasso 190-232 on the boys’ side, but Wabasso won 239-248 on the girls’ side of a prep golf meet on Tuesday.
The Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart boys and girls were both incomplete.
GFW’s Cole Jacobson won the boys’ side of the meet with a 46. He was followed by GFW’s Lincoln McCue (47), BLHS’s Evan Pierce and GFW’s Lane Olson (48), Wabasso’s Brayden Guetter and GFW’s Carson Lee (49), and GFW’s Brenden Lee (50).
BLHS’s Ava Ahlbrecht was the medalist for the girls, shooting a 49. She was followed by Wabasso’s Alexis Jensen (56), Wabasso’s Madelyn Fogelson and GFW’s Anika Lee (57), Wabasso’s Josie Wiese and GFW’s Grace Bunkers, and GFW’s Kjerssa Jasinski (64).
